Star Stuff Earring Cup

I make these earring organizers out of stoneware clay by throwing them on the potter's wheel. I have to be very careful to punch out the stars on the rim at the exact right moment. The clay needs to be stiff enough so I can push through it, but not so stiff that the delicate rim cracks. after drying the cups are bisque fired. These cups are glazed with obsidian black, and another coat of tea dust painted on top to give these cups a delicate sparkle. I like to use the insides of the cups for my makeup brushes and lipsticks with my earrings around the outside.

Each one of my pieces is created one at a time on my wheel with much care, precision, and skill. Since each piece is thrown and glazed individually natural variations will occur. That is what makes handmade pieces so unique and special!
