Into The Wardrobe

This mug design is inspired by my love of stories, in particular Lucy's first peek through the wardrobe into Narnia. First, I threw these mugs on the wheel with brown bear stoneware clay. After trimming them I added handles, and decorated the foot with snowflake stamps (each mug was decorated with a different snowflake, so each mug is unique). Once the mugs were leather hard I hand carved the pine tree branches and pine cones into the surface. I also attached an acorn sprig (from a mold of acorns I made from acorns in our garden) to the handle as a thumbrest. After the mug was bisque fired and cleaned, I glazed the outside with a snow white glaze, and the inside with a deep forest green. Lastly, after the glaze firing I hand painted 23k gold luster on the glaze surface and fired a final time to create these magical mugs.

*not microwave safe due to gold. Dishwasher safe but hand washing is recommended. Dishwashers are rough on gold luster and can cause it to rub off over time *
